It's official. Our campsites are booked for our second annual trip to Herkimer Diamond Mines and KOA Kampgrounds in Herkimer, NY. We went last year with a couple sets of friends and their kids. One of these couples has been camping her every year since they were little. Let me just say off the bat, we had an AWESOME time last year - sure there were bugs and dirt - but there were so many things to do to keep the kids busy that did NOT involve video games or computers.
Our sites were on the waterfront of West Canada Creek, which we would later go tubing in from a location down the road and get off right at our site. The kids seemed to enjoy skipping rocks. The KOA Kampground also has a pool which we used quite a bit.
In the evening of one of our nights there, the older kids enjoyed a candy scavenger hunt, in the dark, using flashlights. Not sure if tons of candy before bed was such a good idea, but hey, it was camp-cation, so what the heck!
For a couple of buck each, that went to charity, we all enjoyed an ice cream social around the camp fire.
We had planned to go to the Herkimer Diamond Mines on our last day, but rain changed our minds about that.
Needless to say, we are all looking forward to the trip this July - even the three hour drive to get there...okay, that last part is a slight exageration. :)
